What To Do When Your Mac Wont Start Up}

Submitted by: Sneha Capoor

Apple products are known for their quality and performance. Despite that Macs arent immune to software and hardware issues. While Macs are well built and are admired for their reliability still they are machines and like any other machine, they are susceptible to a number of errors. These errors may relate to software or hardware part affecting system performance. One such problem is your Mac wont start up. Lets discuss ways to deal with this situation.

Categorize the issue: The first step to solving the issue should be to determine the problem first. Check whether your system has issues with startup or it simply wont turn on. If there is no start-up chime, no fan or drive noise, no images or visuals that mean your system isnt turning on at all and you are not even close to the point where it refuses to start up.

Ensure power connection: Ensure your system is plugged into a power source properly. Try to swap out the power cable or charger or try different power outlet. Look whether the charger is working correctly. If your system battery is completely drained out wait for some time to turn the system on.

Check the hardware: Next is to check system hardware thoroughly. Check for all system hardware and peripherals before trying to boot your system. Check if all its cables are correctly seated. If you have recently installed RAM or swapped out a hard drive check if they are correctly seated in your Mac.

Perform a power-cycle: If your system is stuck in a frozen condition and not responding at all to power-button press, you can fix it by cutting the power to it forcing it to restart. On a mac without a removable battery, press and hold down the power button for ten seconds. It will cut the power to it and force it to restart. If you are using Mac with a removable battery, shut down your Mac, unplug it, remove the battery, wait ten seconds and then reinsert the battery.

On a Mac desktop, unplug the power cable, leave it unplugged for few seconds and then plug it back in.

Reset SMC: This is the last thing you should try. Your Macs SMC controls its fans, lights, power, displays and lot more. Try to reset SMC after performing the power-cycle step. If you have Mac without a removable battery try these steps to reset your SMC.

Shut down your system.

Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source.

Press the (left side) shift + control +option keys and the power button simultaneously.

Release all the keys and power button at the same time.

Press the power button again as normal to turn on the system.

If you are using Mac with a removable battery, follow these steps:

Unplug the Mac from its power source and remove the battery.

Press the power button and hold it down for few seconds.

Release the power button and reinsert the battery.

Plug in the Mac and press the power button to turn the system back on.

On Mac desktops, unplug the Macs power cord and leave it unplugged for around 15 seconds. Plug it back in and wait for five seconds. Then press the power button to turn the Mac back on.

If the problem, still persists even after putting all the efforts you should contact to Apple store for the solution of your problem.
